What is mesotherapy

MesotherapyMesotherapy is a technique that involves the injection of active drugs into the middle layers of the skin (dermis) to address a range of cosmetic and medical problems. The procedure was developed in 1952 by the French physician Michel Pistoras and has since been widely used in both cosmetology and medicine.

Mesotherapy consists of microinjections of special cocktails of active substances. The injections are made with fine needles into the desired areas of the skin, so that the medication goes directly into the problem area and has maximum effect.

Mesotherapy's main feature is its ability to activate regeneration and metabolic processes at the cellular level, without affecting the body's overall metabolism. This allows avoiding systemic side effects and achieving rapid results with minimal doses of active substances.

Mesococktails contain a variety of active ingredients. The composition can vary, but most often mesococktails contain the following components:

  • Vitamins - improve cell metabolism, hydration, regeneration, antioxidant action and cell renewal.
  • Minerals - have a selective effect on tissues. For example, zinc is used to treat acne and improve oily skin, selenium improves regeneration and prevents premature skin ageing, while magnesium and calcium restore micronutrient balance and improve cell metabolism.
  • Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins needed to repair and strengthen tissues.
  • Hyaluronic acid is one of the main ingredients of mesococktails, which actively hydrates the skin by filling the intercellular space.
  • Biomimetic peptides - stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis.
  • Antioxidants - help neutralise free radicals and protect the skin from ageing and damage.

In some cases, mesococktails may also contain medicines to treat certain diseases. For example, they may contain vasodilators, anti-inflammatory drugs or painkillers.

Benefits of mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is one of the most popular treatments in cosmetology and medicine due to its many benefits. It is characterised by its effectiveness, minimal invasiveness and wide range of applications.

General benefits of mesotherapy:

  1. Individual selection of medicines according to the patient's needs and medical condition to make the procedure as effective and safe as possible.
  2. Fast and long-lasting effects - often the effects of the treatment are immediately noticeable (hydration, improved complexion), while the lasting results accumulate over time (rejuvenation, improved skin texture, hair restoration).
  3. Can be combined with other cosmetic and medical treatments to enhance the effect (e.g. laser therapy, exfoliation or physiotherapy).
  4. Can be used for different age groups.
  5. Short procedure and minimal rehabilitation period - the procedure takes between 20 and 40 minutes and the recovery period is minimal - in most cases, the patient can return to normal life after just a few hours.
  6. The procedure is affordable.

How often mesotherapy can be performed

The frequency of mesotherapy treatments depends on the purpose of the treatment, the condition of the skin and the patient's individual indications.

On average, mesotherapy courses are performed as follows:

  • The intensive course (the first 4-6 sessions) is usually carried out weekly. This allows the active ingredients to concentrate in the skin and have a noticeable effect.
  • Support course. After the main course, treatments are carried out once every 2-4 weeks, depending on the skin condition and the desired effect. This helps to maintain the results achieved.
  • Maintenance treatment - after the end of the course of treatment, a single treatment is recommended every 1-3 months to maintain the long-term effect.

Contraindications to mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is safe and minimally invasive. However, as this procedure involves the injection of active substances, it has several contraindications:

  • Allergies, individual intolerance to the ingredients in the mesococktail.
  • Pregnancy and lactation.
  • Infectious skin diseases - any active infection, inflammation or skin damage at the injection site.
  • Malignant tumours.
  • Chronic diseases in the exacerbation phase (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, liver or kidney pathologies).
  • A tendency to form keloid scars.
  • Autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis).
  • Reduced blood clotting, use of anticoagulants.
  • Epilepsy.
  • Mental disorders.
  • The period after scrubbing and laser treatments.

Facial mesotherapy - features of the procedure

Facial mesotherapy is a popular cosmetic procedure performed to rejuvenate the skin, improve its condition and resolve various aesthetic problems.

Before the procedure, a cosmetologist is consulted to assess the patient's skin condition, determine the patient's preferences, indications and possible contraindications. The cosmetologist selects the individual composition of the mesococktail according to the patient's specific problems: dryness, wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, loss of skin tone, etc.

Before the procedure, the skin is cleansed of dirt and make-up, after which an anaesthetic cream can be used if the patient wishes (especially if the patient is sensitive to injections). Mesococktail is injected with a very fine needle. Injections are given to the whole face or only to the problem areas (e.g. eye area, nasolabial folds, forehead). Depending on the purpose of the procedure, the injections can be superficial or deeper - at the level of the dermis.

A facial mesotherapy treatment usually takes between half an hour and an hour. After the mesotherapy, the aesthetician will apply soothing and moisturising products to the skin. After the treatment, the patient is given skin care recommendations.

The procedure is carried out using sterile instruments and certified preparations, reducing the risk of complications. In addition, facial mesotherapy is minimally invasive, reducing the likelihood of side effects.

Benefits of facial mesotherapy:

  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production, improves blood microcirculation and actively rejuvenates the skin.
  • The skin is deeply moisturised and nourished, eliminating dryness and dandruff.
  • Improves complexion and skin tone. The complexion becomes radiant, smooth and healthy.
  • Whitening ingredients help to lighten age spots and even skin tone.
  • Mesotherapy effectively treats acne and its consequences.
  • Visible improvements can be seen after the first treatment, but the final result is visible after a few weeks, when the skin's internal renewal processes are activated.

How hair mesotherapy is performed

Hair mesotherapy is used to treat and improve the condition of the hair and scalp. The procedure starts with a consultation with a specialist (dermatologist, cosmetologist), who assesses the condition of the hair and scalp, checks for diseases and selects the individual composition of injections. A preliminary diagnosis may be prescribed to determine the cause of the problem.

The scalp is cleansed of dirt and disinfected. An anaesthetic cream can be used to relieve discomfort. A thin needle is used to inject the drug cocktail into the scalp at a depth of about 1-2 mm. The injections are given evenly over the entire area to be treated (usually on the scalp, in the fontanel areas or in the front line of hair growth). Injections may be performed manually or using a mesoinjector. The treatment lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.

Benefits of hair mesotherapy:

  • Stimulates the activity of hair follicles, improving their nutrition and blood circulation, thus reducing hair loss and strengthening the hair.
  • Restores hair structure.
  • The injected active ingredients activate inactive hair follicles, which can stimulate the appearance of new hair, as well as increase hair density and volume.
  • Hair is left healthy, shiny and resilient as nutrients go straight to the roots.
  • By restoring the scalp's water balance, it helps address dryness, itchiness and dandruff.
  • It is considered one of the safest procedures with minimal risk of side effects.
  • Effective for various forms of hair loss: androgenetic (hereditary), telogen (stress, hormonal) and alopecia due to inadequate care or malnutrition.
  • Hair mesotherapy can be combined with other treatments (plasma therapy, laser therapy, special shampoos and serums) to achieve better results.

Anti-cellulite mesotherapy

Anti-cellulite mesotherapy is a cosmetic procedure performed to improve the condition of the skin and eliminate cellulite. Anti-cellulite mesotherapy cocktails usually contain vitamins, amino acids, lipolytic agents (substances that break down fat), plant extracts and other active ingredients that stimulate lipolysis and improve skin condition.

How Mano Klinika performs anti-cellulite mesotherapy:

  • Before the procedure, the doctor examines the patient, assesses the condition of the skin, identifies the areas that need to be corrected and selects an individual injection cocktail based on the skin type and the degree of cellulite.
  • The skin of the treated area is cleaned and disinfected. If necessary, the skin can be treated with a painkilling cream to reduce pain.
  • Using fine microneedles, the doctor injects the mesococktail into the subcutaneous layer to a depth of 4-6 mm. The microinjections are spaced a short distance apart over the entire problem area to distribute the active substances evenly.

An anti-cellulite mesotherapy session lasts 20-40 minutes, depending on the area treated and the degree of cellulite. Mesotherapy is most often applied to the buttocks, thighs, abdomen and arms. A course of 5-10 treatments at intervals of 7-10 days is usually needed to achieve a noticeable and long-lasting effect.

Benefits of anti-cellulite mesotherapy:

  • It improves blood circulation, activates the breakdown of fat cells and promotes the removal of toxins and excess fluid from the tissues.
  • The mesococktails make the skin firmer and tighter, and the visible signs of cellulite are significantly reduced.
  • The use of very fine needles and localised injections means that the procedure causes almost no damage to the skin.
  • This procedure does not require anaesthesia, making it safe and accessible to most patients.

Therapeutic mesotherapy

Medical mesotherapy is used to treat pain syndromes, neuralgia, swelling and other musculoskeletal and vascular problems. The procedure treats painful areas or problem areas. Mesotherapy treatment cocktails include:

  • painkillers (lidocaine);
  • anti-inflammatory drugs (diclofenac) to reduce inflammation and swelling;
  • Vitamins and trace elements - to improve overall tissue health and speed up regeneration;
  • vasodilators - to improve blood flow;
  • lymphatic drainage drugs to reduce oedema.

Stages of medical mesotherapy:

  1. Specialist medical consultation, diagnosis. The doctor will find out the cause of the pain or swelling. Diagnostic tests (X-rays, ultrasound, blood tests) may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
  2. The doctor determines the injection site, selects the medication and the right concentration of active ingredients.
  3. Patient is prepared for the procedure - antiseptic treatment of the procedure area, local anaesthesia - as indicated.
  4. The drugs are injected into the skin or subcutaneous tissue with a fine needle at a depth of 1-4 mm.
  5. After the injections, the doctor assesses the patient's reaction and may recommend temporary activity restrictions or additional therapeutic procedures to enhance the effect (massage, physiotherapy).

Benefits of medical mesotherapy:

  • The products are injected directly into the problem areas, thus achieving the highest concentration of active ingredients in the right place.
  • Minimal trauma. The fine needles make the procedure painless and minimally invasive. As a result, mesotherapy does not require a long rehabilitation period.
  • Fast pain relief. Thanks to anaesthetics and anti-inflammatory drugs, the pain starts to subside just a few hours after the procedure.
  • reduces oedema and inflammation.
  • The vitamin B and trace elements in the smoothies promote tissue regeneration.

Recommendations after mesotherapy treatment

After the procedure, there may be some redness and slight bruising at the injection sites, which fades quickly. Occasionally, slight discomfort may be felt at the injection sites, but this disappears within a few hours.

To reduce the risk of complications and enhance the effects of the procedure, you should follow your doctor's recommendations after mesotherapy:

  1. Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds for 2-3 days after the procedure. When going outdoors, be sure to use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
  2. Do not wash your hair for 24 hours (after hair mesotherapy).
  3. Do not use aggressive cosmetic products (peels, scrubs) for 3-4 days after the procedure to avoid skin irritation.
  4. For the first day after the procedure, give up make-up to help your skin recover.
  5. Avoid vigorous physical activity for 1-2 days. This will help prevent excessive sweating and skin irritation.
  6. Do not touch or massage the injection site to prevent infection.
  7. After the treatment, use a gentle moisturiser to care for your skin. This will help soothe the skin and speed up the recovery process.
  8. Do not drink alcohol or smoke for the first 24 hours, as this can slow down the skin's recovery and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
  9. Drink more water to help flush out toxins faster.
  10. Follow the prescribed course of treatment to maximise the effects of mesotherapy.
